Project Title: Aum Crematorium, Denham
Project Overview
AIS Utilities successfully secured the project to connect essential utilities to the Aum Crematorium located in Denham, London. The project required extensive preparatory work, including consultations with legal teams to navigate the complexities of the original route plan, which proved unfeasible. An alternative route via the A40/M40 was identified and secured, ensuring the project’s progression.
Aum Crematorium
Community Need
The Hindu and broader Indian communities require specialized crematorium facilities to meet their cultural and spiritual needs. The Anoopam Mission, led by Param Pujaja Sahebji, recognized this need and provided land at their 15-acre site in Denham for the construction of the crematorium.
Founded in India in 1967 and in the UK in 1978, Anoopam Mission is a global spiritual, cultural, and community-based charity.
Planning and Approval
The Mission invested significant resources and faced planning challenges, but planning permission was granted on appeal in December 2021. This marks the establishment of the first Hindu crematorium in the UK and Europe.
Funding and Support
The Shanta Foundation initially pledged £1.25 million towards the project. Anoopam Mission has launched a fundraising appeal, and while significant contributions have been made by the community, additional funds are still needed.
Facility Details
The crematorium will serve Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and other faiths, adhering to Anoopam Mission’s guidelines. The facility will feature landscaped surroundings, waiting rooms, private ritual rooms, large ceremony halls, cremators, and a separate canteen building with dining and shower facilities.
